Help with Designing a Userbox
[edit]The Operation Brothers at Arms is starting to organize itself. Some of us felt that a user box for the project would be helpful in establishing ourselves. Would you be willing to help us out by helping to redesign my crummy userbox prototype in such a way that it looked more polished and professional.*

I understand that this is a bit of an imposing request, I just felt I could ask since you posted a discussion entry (link) that stated that you had helped others build theirs and I figured why not ask? Regardless of your decision, thank you for your considerationLeonidasSpartan (talk) 19:47, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Armageddon
[edit]Hello Ahunt, well I saw you corrected some of my posts, I thank you for that. I just signed up yesterday and saw a couple of old version application screenshots and I uploaded new ones I had. Besides, on Audacity and Pidgin they weren't much of new versions rather than a picture on different platforms to inform people of their diversity of platform support. I would appreciate further help with how to help more wiki and get more involved in a meaningful way. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elijah El Lazkani (talk • contribs) 08:14, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks Ahunt for the post, I will edit the page as soon as I get the time and ideas on what to put there... I would appreciate it if you would take a look at Transmission and tell me what you think of my adds. Thanks again. And I do agree on what you said, I am lucky I got you to correct my posts and put me on the right track... - — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThyArmageddon (talk • contribs)
Google Chrome
[edit]Personally I don't think the Chromium alpha screenshot added much either. Should I just swap out the main screenshot with the Ubuntu version? TheTechFan (talk) 19:41, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- That would be fine with me. I just don't think we need two shots of the same version - they don't look much different on the different platforms. - Ahunt (talk) 19:44, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
What about the Mac screenshot in the User Interface section? TheTechFan (talk) 19:48, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
- I missed that one down there! Yeah that is 5.0 as well and it looks the same, too! It would make more sense to have images of older versions for historical interest, but I don't see any point in having three versions of 5.0 on different platforms. Starts to look like Mac vs Windows vs Linux promotion more than anything, don't you think? - Ahunt (talk) 19:51, 25 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks

FireFly Balloons
[edit]Ahunt, I am in the process of authoring a page on FireFly balloons. The page and the manufacturer are significant to the sport of hot air ballooning in that many of the features of modern hot air balloons can be traced to TBW/FireFly designs. As a balloonist I can tell you that this is useful information. You suggested I work on the article in user space, but I am uncertain as to how I do this? I have been working on the article 'on-line' as a result and have now rebuilt the page following deletion. I am getting a bit frustrated here... Any suggestions greatly appreciated Thanks DrWhatIKnow 8:41 PDT 9 Jun 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by DrWhatIKnow (talk • contribs) 15:41, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
- You're welcome. I believe that it's never right to speedy delete an article under criterion A7 if it shows some evidence of its subject being notable, and there's enough coverage here that the company may well be notable. Nyttend (talk) 22:21, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit]Hi Ahunt. Not sure why the 'citation' tag was put there again. Is the image I uploaded not enough proof? --Antheii (talk) 22:29, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- Understood; but then the citation should be with that part which existed previously, not with newly added part about the aircraft moved to Widelka - where I took the image myself. Or is that also not verifiable enough? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Antheii (talk • contribs) 23:15, 10 June 2010 (UTC)
- OK, then I just need to dig deeper into and, and try to find some (English language) sources on that first part. But thanks for clarifying! --Antheii (talk) 11:30, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Malware template
[edit]Thanks for expanding the new template!
I think the best order for the sections is a usefully browsable one – an order in which it would make sense for a general audience to read. I adjusted the groups and expanded some more based on the Malware article. Maybe you could try to improve the order if you don't think it's logically browsable now. --Pnm (talk) 02:29, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

You are now a Reviewer
[edit]Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.
When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:12, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Re: your edit to Gatineau Park was frivolous
[edit]Your edit to Gatineau Park was redundant and superfluous: you changed "planned to be" with "intended to be," arguing that "the park didn't plan anything." Well, that part of the sentence is passive; anyone reading the previous formulation would not assume that the park planned anything.
You should avoid frivolous edits. I will let this one pass, since it changes nothing to the meaning (six of one; half a dozen of the other...) --Stoneacres (talk) 14:24, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Dash-8
[edit]Hello,
I can assure you that my posts on the Dash-8 aircraft operated by Transport Canada are not "spammy". The I.P. address used is from Transport Canada, and I myself am an employee who works with those aircraft. The Surveillance System used is most assuredly the MSS 6000, and our aircraft are the first in the world to use it in conjuction with Swift Broadband enabled SATCOM (provided by EMS), as it was a stipulation of our contract with SSC.
As a side-note, a little known fact is that A/C 882 C-GCFJ is currently assisting the United States Government in monitoring the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. As it turns out, our aircrafts capabilities far exceed anything the U.S. has to offer.

- Who you work for is beside the point. The information has already been removed before by consensus as adding nothing of value to the article. If you want to add it back you need to discuss on the talk page and gain a new consensus to include it. - Ahunt (talk) 23:49, 14 July 2010 (UTC)
- The information provided/cited may not be pertinent to that portion of the article, agreed. However, it may be of value in the "Operational History" of the aircraft. My comment as to where I work, was in regards to you calling my posts "Spammy", therefore, who I work for is completely the point. I have not seen the "consensus" you speak of, in regards to the removal of the information, in the discussion page either. Perhaps you could enlighten me, or be more transparent in the future when you decide to make changes. As for requiring a citation for Transport Canada operating those aircraft, I provided it, and you deleted it. If you do not believe me, anyone is free to check the registry of Canadian Civil aircraft, or use that as your "citation"... http://wwwapps2.tc.gc.ca/Saf-Sec-Sur/2/ccarcs/aspscripts/en/advancedsearch.asp —Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.103.96.11 (talk) 18:55, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Euroradar CAPTOR
[edit]My edits to Euroradar CAPTOR are indeed constructive because they are reverts of user:Vedant's random anti-British revenge edits for past disputes. 88.106.127.218 (talk) 22:35, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- Your edit warring is not justified. If you feel you have a case to make then take it to the talk page to gain consensus. - Ahunt (talk) 22:36, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- The countries are not listed by alphabetical order because Spain is listed before Italy. 88.106.127.218 (talk) 22:38, 19 July 2010 (UTC)
- I should have got consensus for restoring the article to its original state prior to Vedant's edit? I thought you were supposed to gain consensus to make a change rather than revert one. You were in such a hurry to defend Vedant's revenge edits that you failed to notice the countries weren't listed by alphabetical order, like you said they were, and just went straight ahead accusing me of vandalism. 88.106.127.218 (talk) 22:56, 19 July 2010 (UTC)

Please explain
[edit]You reverted an edit and cited WP:EL. It's a long list, what is your point exactly? 85.76.38.140 (talk) 15:17, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thank you for your note. Wikipedia is not a collection of links and the one you added to that article did not meet the requirements of WP:EL. Most of the other ones in that article probably don't either, it is on my list to review them all and clean them up today. - Ahunt (talk) 15:35, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Can you be more verbose? 85.76.38.140 (talk) 15:38, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- It is really all outlined at WP:ELNO. The opening statement "it is not Wikipedia's purpose to include a lengthy or comprehensive list of external links related to each topic. No page should be linked from a Wikipedia article unless its inclusion is justifiable according to this guideline and common sense. The burden of providing this justification is on the person who wants to include an external link." Pretty much sums it up. Wikipedia articles should have very limited external links and they should provide very specific value to the reader. There are hundreds of websites "about free software" and we aren't going to provide links to all of them. In most cases external links, beyond official websites, should either be used specifically as inline citations for the article or they should be removed. Many are added to just funnel traffic to the website and therefore constitute WP:SPAM. - Ahunt (talk) 17:10, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I guess that makes sense. 85.76.38.140 (talk) 17:25, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

So --- why can I not keep it until it is decided?
Who gives you the power to decide what to do with my talk page?
Do I get to mess with your user page? --Triton Rocker (talk) 15:28, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
- I removed it because it violates WP:UPNOT, it is that simple. - Ahunt (talk) 15:30, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
- Only in your opinion.
- Look, Mr Hunt, let's be honest and mature about this and see if we can find a baseline to work off.
- There are two entirely different activities:
- One is a genuine investigation and reporting of valid concerns
- The other is a malicious and self-serving provocation and reporting of others, often invoking the involvement of others.
- A leading question for you --- do both exist on the Wikipedia and, if so, in what proportion? --Triton Rocker (talk) 15:37, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
I have been editing here for over five years and I have never seen "malicious and self-serving provocation and reporting of others". Even if it did happen the system has sufficient checks and balances that these things would not prevail. - Ahunt (talk) 15:53, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
- How can you state "used to harass" after what I have just said to you? What came first?
- If I spend the time to prove to you that it goes on --- not my own but other cases which were censured --- will you change your mind and open a discussion? --Triton Rocker (talk) 15:58, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
This is really pointless - if you are here to fight with people then, as I have said, Wikipedia doesn't work that way, just get a new hobby. - Ahunt (talk) 15:59, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
- No, I am really not, I just want to start a discussion based on reality rather than denial.
- You appear to consider yourself my superior and yourself empowered to dress me down.

Grumman Tracker
[edit]G'day from Oz, and a 'good-oh' for the revert of the Tracker article edit. I am prepared to let the accusation that I am a Pom slide YSSYguy (talk) 04:36, 14 August 2010 (UTC)
- I did recognize that this editor seems to have a history of trying to promote this company though Wikipedia, but that aside the aircraft he tried to include simply aren't "on display" as per the inclusion standard, so it doesn't go in this section. - Ahunt (talk) 12:04, 14 August 2010 (UTC)

SaxonAir and Skydrift
[edit]First of all I am not having a go at you; I am perplexed. There are two FBO/air charter companies operating from the same airport engaged in much the same sort of activity and with similar aircraft. One is deemed notable and the other isn't. I have read WP:CORP more than once and I just can't see how a couple of articles mentioning that SaxonAir has built a new facility confers notability; and mention of the sale of the company to another organisation is specifically excluded from conferring notability. YSSYguy (talk) 15:43, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- Hi there, fair question - my decision was simple based on the refs available to determine notability. - Ahunt (talk) 19:00, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
Wikiwings
[edit]Hello Mr Hunt! . . . I'm embarrassed! . . . but - thank you, all the same! Each time I go to Oshkosh (not every year!), I say 'never again' - the heat and the long hours trudging around the lines of aircraft. Remains to be seen whether I 'punish myself' again that way. It does however give the chance to see some rarities - and the Hamilton was certainly in that category - I'd forgotten the type ever existed. The man in shorts wouldnt budge for my photo - but does have the advantage of providing scale. Makes one appreciate how brave/foolhardy the early pilots were in their small machines. They deserve the Wikiwings really! Regards RuthAS (talk) 19:30, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

Hawkair
[edit]G'day, I've just been looking through the Flight International 2010 airliner census, and have noticed that it lists Hawk Air with a pair of Metros and Hawkair with some Dash 8s. Do you know whether there are two different airlines, or just the one? YSSYguy (talk) 22:57, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
- A very good question! The company website for Hawkair gives no info about their aircraft but does show a lot of Dash-8 photos. The Transport Canada Civil Aircraft Register says that they have 4 X Dash-8 and 1 Bristol Freighter (!), so I suspect we have two different airlines here. - Ahunt (talk) 23:05, 3 September 2010 (UTC)
my apologie
[edit]hi. I posted this on my talk age a few minutes ago and I thought you saw it. Here it is
Sorry if i disturbed wikipedia. I'd go back and revert my "unconstructive edit" if i could remember the page. However, let me remind you it was a talk page. Stressing your opinoin on a page specifilcally meant for stressing your opinoin probably woulnt count as "Vandalism", so called. if you would like me to make a haeding or add a new section, i will, but deleing my posts and calling it vandilism could get admins severly critizied and ridiculed. I can understand if i wrote this all over a page, ut a small post on an obcure page, even if nessecary, seems very harsh, espically to call it vandalism. [edit]Aviation is my passion as well. Now I just asked a question on the Sperwer talk page..how can I cite for something I saw with my own eyes, have photographic evidence of, but have no web page, newpaper article or so on...
For example, there IS a Sperwer in Trenton http://picasaweb.google.com/JeanGuy.pitre/2010_09_03#5512847227758541138
And the other Sperwer is/was in Ottawa as I had indicated.

Image request
[edit]Hey Ahunt, since you have image editing skills (ie, more advanced than my own on MS Paint), would you mind doing me the following image-related favour? I'd like to add the Canpotex logo to that page, but the only high-quality image I've found is in a PDF. Rather than me printing screen and saving as jpg, would you be able to save it as a png/svg/etc? Here's the source: http://canpqlx.sasktelwebhosting.com/documents/CodeofConductDec15.pdf, and I know you're familiar with FUR/etc so I'll leave that to you. Thanks, -M.Nelson (talk) 18:00, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- Nice to hear from you! No problem! Your instructions were very clear so that is done as a PNG and inserted in the article. You can adjust the size if you like in the article infobox coding. I was able to do it all in GIMP. - Ahunt (talk) 21:43, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- Looks great, thanks! -M.Nelson (talk) 22:10, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- No problem - happy to help out! Please feel free to adjust it as needed. - Ahunt (talk) 22:12, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Notability of aircraft accidents
[edit]I've expanded my thoughts to cover the notability of accidents involving aircraft under 5,700 kg MTOW, partly using what is said at WP:AIRCRASH-SECTION. Maybe you could take another look and let me know what you think. The original discussion at WP:AVIATION has been closed, with advice to take it to the Aviation Accident WP instead. Will do that in next few days. Mjroots (talk) 08:54, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Will do, thanks. - Ahunt (talk) 12:25, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
- Just like to say I like your suggestion at User talk:Mjroots/Notability of Aircraft Accidents it is simple and doesnt clash with the guide we already have for inclusion in Airline/Airport/Aircraft articles. Where do I stick my vote! MilborneOne (talk) 16:24, 9 September 2010 (UTC)
Re the tag you added to Mozilla Sunbird - I can see your point, though don't see how this can be properly achieved without duplicating a lot of content from the Mozilla Corporation software rebranded by the Debian project page? I've replaced your tag with a "main article" tag; if you think it needs more though, feel free to put back in Nuwewsco (talk) 18:35, 11 September 2010 (UTC)
- Okay, thanks. - Ahunt (talk) 18:40, 11 September 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Wag-Aero CUBy
[edit]On 28 September 2010, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Wag-Aero CUBy, which you created or substantially expanded. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check ) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Killing some redirs
[edit]You made redirs for "Heinkel-Hirth HeS 003", but there is no such thing. The "00" names were introduced long after the HeS3 was built and flown. Maury Markowitz (talk) 11:12, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
- Well they're only linked to from the Hirth page, and since they overlap with the "real" 001 and 003 (unrelated engines) I think they confuse matters. I've orphaned them for now, we'll see what happens. Maury Markowitz (talk) 11:52, 12 October 2010 (UTC)
Speedy deletion declined: North London Skydiving Centre
[edit]Hello Ahunt. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of North London Skydiving Centre, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not unambiguously promotional. Thank you. GedUK 12:06, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
North London skydiving Centre
[edit]Hi, I'm new to the whole wikipedia thing and have been having some dificulties getting it right. I attempted to create a page for NLSC which is one of the dropzones that I frequent. I tried to copy the format of the pages relating to other UK dropzones but I guess something about the way Im writing it is incorrect as you keep flagging it. The NLSC page is almost identical to the old "north london parachute centre' page, yet that one was never flagged. Is it something to do with the fact that I linked the DHC-6 and N22 pages to it? Let me know what I need to do. Thanks buddy. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moochooser (talk • contribs) 20:58, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Tidy ref links
[edit]Hi Ahunt, thank you for your help with the Antivirus software page.
We discussed how to make ref links look tidier. You gave the following example:
<ref name="FAA"> {{cite web|url = http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/acftinqSQL.asp?striptxt=Airbike&mfrtxt=&cmndfind.x=0&cmndfind.y=0&cmndfind=submit&modeltxt=Airbike|title = Make / Model Inquiry Results|accessdate = 27 July 2009|last = [[Federal Aviation Administration]]|authorlink = |year = 2009| month = July}}</ref>
To me, it looks like a mass of cooked spaghetti code! Is there an easier way for users to learn how to post these tidy ref links? It would be great if Wikipedia provided its editors with a "ref" button and a form with text boxes to fill in the relevant details.
Another problem: duplicate "refs" in different parts of the same page. For example, the pressure cooking page has duplicate ref links, numbered 2, 5 and 6 in the "References" section. It all looks messy, but I've made attempts at tidying up that page.
Thanks for your help. :) TurboForce (talk) 00:19, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- Well let's start with something easy. Have a look at my three edits to Pressure cooking and you will see how I named one ref and then combined all three duplicate refs into one ref used three times. Let me know if that makes sense and then we can deal with formatting next. - Ahunt (talk) 01:49, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- Wow! You've done an excellent job with them ref links on the pressure cooking page and combined the duplicates into one ref. I've made a lot of edits on that page and I couldn't work out how to tidy up the "References" section.
- I will practise tidying up ref links. If I add new content to pages such as antivirus software, I will attempt to make the ref links tidier.
- Thank you for your help Ahunt. I see you put a LOT of time and effort into improving Wikipedia. I'm sure you had a website link in your page at one time? TurboForce (talk) 11:32, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- Was that your own website? TurboForce (talk) 11:34, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- Glad that was helpful! I hope each step made sense there and that you could follow what I did? There is no set format for refs on Wikipedia - the templates make it consistent, but you can use any format. I took my website link down because I was getting too much attention, but if you check an old version (like this) you will find the link is there. Feel free to look around or drop me an email (link to that is on the website, bottom of home page). - Ahunt (talk) 11:40, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:AskUbuntuScreenShot.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:AskUbuntuScreenShot.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 17:47, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
- Apparently someone replaced my fair-use screenshot with an identical one for no particular reason, so I guess one has to be deleted. - Ahunt (talk) 18:01, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Image to OCR Converter
[edit]Hi, No I do not work for this company. But I do have extensive knowledge in the OCR domain and I have purchased this software. But I am no way getting any favor from writing articles on this software in wikipedia. I think it does not seem to be written from a neutral point of view because I have used many technical details in it. Please discuss on the article discuss page or my page user page. Going ballistic
[edit]Evening Ahunt: Re the Alpaero page, thanks for removing the tag. I was a bit puzzled. On the recovery system, I came across the company link but I don't know if they are the only manufacturers of such systems. We could do with an article on the technology, independent of company; Jane's says only that a "ballistic parachute recovery system" is an option, without mentioning a maker. That's why I left it as a redlink. Cheers,TSRL (talk) 17:06, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- I agree that we need an article on the subject of ballistic parachutes. BRS is the best known maker of them, but not the only one! I agree that lacking information from Janes it should be changed back to a redlink. - Ahunt (talk) 17:09, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks! A v. quick google search turned up at least two other makers; one Czech, one German I think.TSRL (talk) 17:25, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem, I was trying to be subtle... BTW, did I tell you about the escapades on my wife's election campaign?! First she fell off a second floor landing and ripped up tons of stuff, mainly her ankle and knees, then I got caught in a retracting dog leash that launched me like a Bugs Bunny cartoon into the air and onto my elbow, ribs and head. Six hours later at the hospital, both of us were released and the only consulation that after starting up an emergency ward by ourselves, she found out that she won the election for School Trustee! Bzuk (talk) 17:27, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
- Wow that is a heck of a story! Maybe it was a sympathy vote? Glad you two are okay now, but no more campaigning, eh? It is too demanding! - Ahunt (talk) 18:34, 29 October 2010 (UTC)
On revert for POV Language
[edit]A little while ago I got reverted for POV Language here. I posted my argument on the discussion page. It's on this GNU/Linux naming controversy. If you could please comment on the discussion page I would appreciate it. My opinion is that on a controversial issue, especially concerning naming, there isn't really a way to have NPOV. You can read the rest of my argument on the discussion page. SirGrant (talk) 23:32, 5 November 2010 (UTC)
